< PreviousAUTOLINKNext up is the Land Rover Discovery Sport– a great car to drive, based on the RangeRover Evoque and with permanent 4 wheeldrive. Its 2.0-litre diesel engine and four-wheeldrive provide the driver with the ability tohandle whatever you throw at it. It’s anupmarket SUV that competes well on pricewith most SUV’s in its class and we certainlyweren’t disappointed with the levels ofrefinement in the cabin. In fact, we were takenaback by how light and relaxing it feels todrive. It’s perfect for taller drivers or thosewho need extra leg room in the back plus itcomes with the option of five or seven seatswhich is another great advantage – we alsoliked the powered tailgate, which is standardon all but base SE trim models.Last but by no means least are BMW’sxDrive models – as you’ll see we’ve justtested the 3 series X drive but the system isavailable as an optional extra on practically allmodels nowadays and, for our money, is wellworth the investment. Unlike traditional all wheel drive vehicles, theXDrive is an intelligent system that undernormal conditions splits the power between therear wheels and front wheels on a 60:40 basis.Should the weather turn though or you hit awet or icy bit of road, any grip lost is detectedby the onboard computer and, in milliseconds,it transfers more power to the wheels that DOhave grip through a clever mutiplate clutch thatsits between the front and rear axles.None of this is discernible to the driver ofcourse except when you get around a bendyou didn’t know was there, on a dark wetnight, and you wonder how the heck youcame out of that in one piece. It’s a great bitof kit – perhaps one of BMW’s best keptsecrets - and well worth looking into, now youknow it exists.Of course, no car is going to make youinvulnerable and driving in the dark calls for aproactive approach. Lights, heaters andwipers all put high demands on our carbattery. So, where you’re driving is mainly onan evening or early morning and you findyourself stuck in traffic, remember the batteryis taking a lot of punishment. Replacing oneas it approaches the end of its lifespan, ratherthan waiting for it not to start one cold darkmorning, will save you lots of frustration.Likewise, turning the heater fan down andremembering to switch off the heated rearwindow once windows are clear will helpprolong battery life, as will trickle chargingyour battery on a weekend if it’s just mooredup in the garage.Regular checks on lights, bulbs and wiperscan save you from an accident too, as canmaking sure your tyres have plenty of tread. In fact if you live or travel in remote areaswinter tyres are a good investment as theyhave a higher silica content preventing themfrom hardening when frosts occur, andaffording far better grip in the cold and wet.BMW xDriveEast Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk40EMBL 11 November 2016_Layout 1 01/11/2016 16:37 Page 40Land RoverDiscovery Sportwww.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk East Midlands Business Link 41EMBL 11 November 2016_Layout 1 01/11/2016 16:37 Page 41PROCESSING SPOTLIGHTFUNCTIONALINGREDIENTSINTERNATIONALFood&DrinkFood&Drinkwww.fdiforum.netNOVEMBER 2016£3.50 STERLINGBAKERY ANDCONFECTIONERYThe vitalingredientThe vitalingredientFor businesses that areserious about reducing theircarbon footprintwww.blmgroup.co.ukVOLUME 3 ISSUE 5WWW.RENEWABLESANDENVIRONMENT.COMPREMIERLEAGUEAMBITIONEMBL meets DistinctRecruitmentPREMIERLEAGUEAMBITIONEMBL meets DistinctRecruitmentNOVEMBER 2016EAST MIDLANDS LEADING BUSINESS E-MAGIN PROFILE Abstrakt CreativePROPERTYInvesting abroadROUNDTABLEManufacturing: what’snext?www.blmgroup.co.ukWWW.EASTMIDLANDSBUSINESSLINK.CO.UKEMPOWERYour BusinessYour guide to the pharmaceutical world Volume 4 Issue 5PPEPerfect protectionAnimalHealthBeast of burdenBusinessGrowthBooming biopharmaPharmaBUSINESS INTERNATIONALThe total packageFrom development to dispensingThe total packageFrom development to dispensingPPEPerfect protectionAnimalHealthBeast of burdenBusinessGrowthBooming biopharmawww.pbiforum.netNOVEMBER 2016 £3.50YORKSHIRE & LINCOLNSHIRE’S LEADING BUSINESS MAGAZINEwww.blmgroup.co.ukVOLUME 31 ISSUE 11ENGINEERING &CONSTRUCTION Unlocking engineeringENERGY &RENEWABLES Wet wet wetBUSINESSSERVICESSowing skillsDRIVING BUSINESS GROWTHDRIVING BUSINESS GROWTHOften Imitated -Never Equalledblmgroup.co.ukEMBL 11 November 2016_Layout 1 01/11/2016 16:38 Page 42Next >
