And finally The world of Frazer Dirtier than a toilet seat Many of us have been working from home for a significant portion of the past year, seeing us set up and invest in furniture for a solid home office. Now, during the pandemic, one might have thought that most workers would keep their workspace extra clean to avoid the build-up of germs - but a new study may well surprise you. A little experiment, by Fasthosts, saw different areas of the working from home set-up swabbed, from the desk to the mouse and keyboard, and compared them to other household objects, and rather nauseatingly, the results show that our desks harbour more germs than a toilet seat and kitchen bin! Our keyboards and desk chairs are unfortunately not much better. Frazer thinks it’s time to get the rubber gloves on. A recent press release that came through Business Link towers has stirred debate in the office. “What could this be?” I hear you ask, “must be something serious.” Well, dear reader, you are right. The heated discussion centres around a very significant topic – how to create the perfect boiled egg and soldiers. Fortunately the press release proposed a solution to our argument, employing a statistician to devise a formula based on science and nationwide research into how Brits make the traditional breakfast favourite. You’ll need a measuring tape, thermometer, and possibly a degree in maths. The study revealed that the perfect egg and soldiers requires a medium egg to be boiled for precisely 4.25 minutes, then plunged into cold water for 57 seconds. White bread must be toasted for 2.95 minutes and cut into 2.1cm wide soldiers and buttered. And the dish should be served with a little salt. Now, as Frazer embarks on his own experiment to test this formula, he suggests you all do to, and let him know, is this indeed the recipe for the ultimate boiled egg and soldiers? 62 East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk © Shutterstock/ Stephen Hunter © Shutterstock/ Madhourse Del Boy could have been triumphant online For years viewers watched Del Boy and Rodney Trotter try their luck at selling questionable merchandise under the ruse of ‘Trotters Independent Traders’ - with hopes of becoming millionaires. Though their luck was limited over the series, they finally hit the jackpot, receiving £6.2m for a rare pocket watch at an auction. After years of selling knock off goods, one would have thought they’d have a little more success. But perhaps they were just working in the wrong period of time. Well, Frazer has come across a rather funny study revealing that Del Boy could have been successful if he had access to the online marketplaces of today, with goods listing at decent prices. The Wholesale Clearance UK research shows that Del Boy’s 18 Carat Gold Chains could’ve sold for £100-500 on an online marketplace, in comparison to their £50 price tag in the show, while his Pre-blessed Romanian White Wine, sold at £2.50 a bottle, could have fetched £15 a piece, and Golden Balls Underpants, signed and endorsed by David Beckham, could’ve been advertised for £50-500 - even more if authenticated! Frazer supposes this shows just how powerful the online marketplace really is. Those behind the research said: “With a good online shopfront, a clever bit of marketing and the right products, there is no doubt that Del would have fulfilled his dream to become a millionaire if he sold his knock off goods in 2021.” A formula for success © Shutterstock/ richardjohnson 62.qxp_Layout 1 02/09/2021 16:48 Page 1East Midlands Business Link Bricks 2021 A celebration of those helping to create the landscape for the next generation EAST MIDLANDS The prestigious East Midlands Bricks Awards are back for 2021!
