Plans submitted for Local Centre at new mixed-use development in Nottingham

Detailed plans for the Local Centre at the new mixed-use development at Teal Park in Nottingham have been submitted.

Despite the economic problems surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, the national food store operator Aldi has agreed to anchor the Local Centre which will also include four additional retail units, a children’s day nursery and a public house.

Up to 125 FTE jobs would be created if the proposals are approved by Gedling Borough Council at Teal Park off the Colwick Loop Road in Netherfield.

Subject to planning, it is hoped work on the new store and retail parade would start in autumn this year and be completed in spring 2022.

Property company AC Lloyd Commercial and Nottingham-based Henry Davidson Developments (HDD) have secured planning permission for a 53,000 sq ft trade park and a 28,860 sq ft industrial unit at Teal Park.

Storage Giant, Tool Station, Screwfix and Howdens have already agreed deals to open premises in new units of 30,000 sq ft, 4,000 sq ft, 5,000 sq ft and 6,000 sq ft respectively while the mixed-use site will also include a purpose-built care home for people with residential and residential dementia care needs.

Mark Edwards, Managing Director of AC Lloyd Commercial, said Aldi’s interest in opening at Teal Park in Nottingham was a great endorsement of the development.

“The Local Centre would create up to 125 FTE jobs for people at a difficult time due to Covid-19 and would be a further boost for the local economy,” he said.

“Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, we have continued to attract interest in the site and the plans we have put forward to Gedling Borough Council include creating an additional four retail units at the same time as the Aldi supermarket. We have received keen interest from operators for these units and negotiations are continuing.”

Richard Croft, director at HDD, added: “This would be another significant milestone for Teal Park and if planning is granted would bring forward much needed facilities for the growing community and a real boost for local job creation in these extremely challenging times.

“Teal Park is generating interest from a myriad of sectors which is adding to its appeal and our plans from the outset to create a development which was truly multi-purpose is coming to fruition.

“Stainforth Construction is already on site and working in line with Government guidelines to build the units on the trade park which have already secured planning permission.”
