The next phase of Mercia Park is moving forwards after planning permission was granted by North West Leicestershire District Council’s Planning Committee.
The hybrid application (part full and part outline), concerned a site of 29.08ha currently within agricultural use.
The full part of the application relates to a storage/distribution unit with total floorspace of 611,000 sq ft, which is to be occupied by DSV, a transport and logistics company which currently operates within the existing Mercia Park site.
The proposed unit would include a warehouse at ground floor, a three-storey mezzanine and a two storey office.
The outline element of the application provides for development of an additional unit
of 442,000 sq ft.
The £150m Mercia Park expansion could deliver between 1,000 and 1,700 jobs on site when fully occupied.
Richard Sykes, development director at IM Properties, commented: “The Committee resolution to grant Planning Permission subject to signing of the S106 Agreement marks an important step towards unlocking new job opportunities and wider economic benefits for North-West Leicestershire.
“With DSV already committed to an additional facility, the expansion has a fantastic head start, and we’re confident of securing a further national manufacturer or logistics occupier for the remaining 450,000 sq ft.”
Mercia Park is a 3.5m sq ft manufacturing and logistics development off J11 of the M42 on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border, home to Jaguar Land Rover’s Global Logistics Centre and a flagship facility for DSV.
