J Tomlinson appointed on £2.6m M&E project

J Tomlinson has been appointed by VINCI Construction UK to undertake £2.6m of mechanical and electrical engineering (M&E) work on a new motorway services area development.

Work has recently got under way on the scheme for MOTO at junction one of the M6 at Rugby, with Nottingham-based J Tomlinson due to start on site in October.

The £23.4m project includes extensive parking and circulation facilities, a fully serviced amenity building, which will feature restaurants and retail units, a fuel filling station and a Costa drive through.

Mark Mason, operations manager (M&E) at J Tomlinson said: “This is a significant scheme which will provide a range of services to travellers on the M6, one of the UK’s key motorways. J Tomlinson is delighted to have been appointed to this contract and will bring considerable experience to the team developing the site.

“As a company, we provide a range of integrated building solutions, with our roots in M&E, and we are proud to have been appointed by VINCI Construction UK to undertake this project on the edge of Warwickshire.”

J Tomlinson’s role will include the complete M&E work for the site such as new low voltage (LV) mains network including distribution across the site to different buildings, general and feature lighting, power, fire alarm, access control, CCTV, security, disabled alarms and lightning protection, along with mechanical services such as heating, hot and cold water, drainage, sanitaryware, comfort cooling, underfloor heating, air handling plant, ductwork, Building Management System, and back-up liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipework.

In addition, J Tomlinson will be responsible for the development of an external energy centre, complete with biomass boiler and fuel store, as well as buried external, cross-site services such as water, gas, electricity and heating.

Completion is due in Summer 2020, with J Tomlinson’s role due to finish at the end of May 2020.

Michael Roadnight, Regional Director at VINCI Construction UK, said: “We look forward to working with J Tomlinson and all our stakeholders in collaboration to deliver an exciting project that will no doubt bring excellent services to the M6.”
