Approval has been given to plans from Northamptonshire County Council, which will see 132 homes built in Northampton.
The homes will be built at the former site of Parklands Middle School, Devon Way.
School buildings and playgrounds were previously located to the east of the site, and school playing fields were located to the west, with a woodland coppice/spinney to the north of the site. The main school buildings were demolished in 2011 following the vacation of the site by Northampton School for Girls in 2008.
Only hardstanding, foundations, the former caretaker’s bungalow and a small number of amenity trees remain on the eastern part of the site. The coppice to the north of the site remains and the playing fields are overgrown.
The application site is 5.2 hectares.
A document released by the council ahead of the final decision on the plans states: “The proposal would make a significant contribution towards the Council’s housing supply with associated social and economic benefits. Furthermore, subject to conditions and planning obligations, no harm has been identified that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits. Therefore, it is recommended that outline planning permission is granted.”
