The go-ahead has been given to a five storey student accommodation scheme in Nottingham.
Existing buildings at 16-22 St Marks Street will be demolished to make way for the development.
The upper floors of the accommodation building are to contain 52 studios, while there are
two options for the ground floor. Option A is for a commercial unit for a restaurant / café and 6 further studios. Option B is for 11 studios on the ground floor.
A planning statement submitted to the city council says: “The proposal will fulfil an economic role by bringing forward the development of a vacant brownfield site and by providing employment during the construction phase.
“It will fulfil an economic and social role by providing accommodation for students who will then make use of local facilities including local shops, public houses, restaurants and hot food takeaways, and leisure facilities.
“It will fulfil an environmental role by improving the appearance of a poor quality site through the erection of a well-designed building which will enhance the appearance of the street scene.”
