Approval set for Nottingham mixed use development

Bildurn is set to deliver a new mixed-use development on Station Street in Nottingham after plans were recommended for approval by Nottingham City Council.

Vita Group is to bring forward the residential element of the development under its Vita Student brand.

323 student studios, with communal facilities including a gym, reception area and coffee shop are to be built. A coffee shop is also proposed to be open to the public.

The building is planned to increase in height from south to north. The southern elevation
facing onto Station Street would be 6 storeys high, the middle section would be 8 storeys and the northern part would be 9 storeys.

A council document states: “The location of the site is distant from the main areas of high student concentration (largely) to the west, rather being situated in a mixed use commercial environment at the periphery of the City Centre.

“The proposed accommodation is of an appropriate size internally with studios ranging from 16 to 26 sqm and benefiting from generous communal facilities on the ground and lower ground floor, as described above. It is in a highly accessible location with good pedestrian, cycle, bus and tram links to the City Centre and both University campuses.

“It is concluded that the principle of the development for student occupation is stationacceptable.”

Managing Director at Bildurn Sean Akins said: “Our scheme will see Grade A offices and high quality residential accommodation reinvigorate the first approach to our city centre, regenerating a large chunk of currently disused and unattractive space in this prime location.

“The two buildings are next to each other, backed by the canal and fronted by a pedestrianised highway, which presents a challenge for the sequence of construction. Following completion of demolition, the residential phase is planned to start in September of this year, followed by the construction of the office block next door at No.11.”

Tim Witt, Development Manager at Vita Group, added: “We’re very pleased to be part of this exciting development for Nottingham. Vita Group’s ethos is all about our commitment to creating connected communities, innovatively bringing together work, leisure and living.

“We’ve done extensive research about this prime location in Nottingham city centre and concluded it fits perfectly with our aspirations as a business to develop trusted and respected communities, bringing vitality and vibrancy to the area.”
