130 new homes given the go-ahead in Cossington

A development of 130 new homes in the Leicestershire village of Cossington has been given the go-ahead, with construction work due to start in the New Year.

Charnwood Borough Council has issued detailed planning permission for the project, which will include maisonettes, bungalows and houses, with 52 of the homes designated as affordable and available for low-cost rent or shared ownership.

The new homes will be built by Bellway East Midlands, which has its regional head office in Leicester.

Steve Smith, sales director for Bellway East Midlands, said: “This will be a very desirable neighbourhood in a village location, well planned and thoughtfully laid out with plenty of open space and a variety of high-quality homes to suit a wide range of requirements.

“And with 40 per cent of the properties being designated for shared ownership or affordable rent, the development will bring opportunities for people who may not yet be able to afford to buy a property at full price to still enjoy one of our modern, energy-efficient homes.”

The development will be on a site of around 24 acres on the eastern edge of the village, off Main Street. There will be areas of public open space including a children’s play area and a network of footpaths. A public right of way which runs along the western edge of the development will be retained.

Land has also been allocated as part of the plan to allow for the expansion of Cossington Primary School.

Bellway has committed to making more than £1.5 million of investment in local services and infrastructure as part of its planning agreement. This will support facilities such as education, healthcare and public transport as well as improvements at Sileby Library.

Work on site will start early next year.
