The weekend is just around the corner and that means another ‘Time Out’. This week Business Link talks to James Wallis, founder of Aristotle Financial Planning, based in Derby.
What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?
Aside from the obvious of turning off my computer and clearing up my desk, I really start to unwind and feel like it’s the weekend when we have ‘Games Night’ in our house. After dinner we get some games out as a family, have some sweet treats such as doughnuts, brownies or cakes and just enjoy some time together.
What is your hobby?
I have lots of interests but not necessarily one specific hobby. I enjoy being active whether that be running, cycling on my indoor Peleton bike or lifting weights, walking the dog in the countryside, watching football and playing with my children. I am also an avid learner in terms of books, podcasts and documentaries. Having variety and balance is really important to me.
What is your favourite movie?
The Pursuit of Happiness – I work in finance (although not the same specific part) so this this might seem like an obvious one, but I just really like the journey from seeing the struggle and believing in yourself as well as the success at the end.
If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?
I feel really fortunate that I love what I do, but I guess the keen learner in me would probably have been suited to research or academia. Having said that, running a business is in my family so I would probably end up running some kind of other business in another area.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
For me this would definitely be the power of flight – no more sitting in traffic and long journeys (assuming I could fly fast of course!) and obviously it would look cool!
What is your favourite genre of music?
I would have to say Indie/Rock music, but also be honest and say that I love a mixture of all different music at different times. I was brought up listening to Queen and Elton John which brings back great memories, my teenage years were about Britpop with bands such as Oasis and my University days were going to gigs and seeing Indie bands such as the Arctic Monkeys.
If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?
If it were possible, I would actually like to go forwards in time by say 25 years. It would be amazing to see where I am and look back to see whether I have actually done all of the things I had hoped for. In terms of travelling back, this is a bit cheesy but I would say my wedding day. It was just such a great day with all of my friends and family gathered together for one big celebration.
