Time Out: Dave Starling, Director at Timmins Engineering & Construction Ltd

It almost the weekend and that means another ‘Time Out’. This week’s quick fire questions are answered by Dave Starling, Director at Timmins Engineering & Construction Ltd.

What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?

I live on a small farm so there always loads of animals to tend to or jobs to do, we’re currently lambing so that’s keeping myself and my wife busy. We also have a son who is nearly one so weekends are more about spending as much time with them as possible.

As busy as weekends get it’s a great break from the office and a good way to wind down.

What is your hobby?

I’m a keen rugby player so my weekends used to be all about playing Rugby at Market Rasen & Louth – I used to be club captain – but my best years are behind me so I only play the occasional game these days when the body will allow it.

I love to be outdoors and enjoy taking the dog on a long walks and up mountains. Everyone thinks Lincolnshire is this totally flat county but were I live in the Wolds there is some beautiful hilly countryside.

What is your favourite movie?

This has to be ‘Memphis Belle’, it’s a WW2 film about an American B-17 bomber who flew 25 successful missions over Europe, as I’m from Bomber County I love these types of films.

If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?

I really enjoy what I do (most the time) but I’d love to have been a professional adventurer, or be paid to travel the world in some capacity. Anything based out in the wilderness would have suited me really as I love been outside, but when I graduated from university the recession had just hit and this was one of the first sectors that took a down turn during those times.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

It would be to be able to control time. Since reaching my 30’s, getting married and becoming a father time seems to have sped up, I’d love to be able to slow things down to enjoy more time with my family and to spend more time in the outdoors.

What is your favourite genre of music?

Has to be Rock music for me although I do like country music too. I do enjoy most types of music though, we always have the radio on at home.

If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?

I would like to travel into the future (if that’s allowed) technology has come such a long way in my life time I can’t imagine where we will be in 100 years.
