Rising star Ben Slater, 23, Financial Planner at The RU Group, a leading Midlands financial services group headquartered on the ng2 Business Park in Nottingham, was named ‘High Achiever of the Year’.

His award was presented by Juliet Williams, the Nottingham Institute President, who said of Ben: “His cashflow planning is second to none in the company and his technical understanding allows him to pass on key knowledge to his colleagues. There is no doubt that Ben will soon be one of the industry’s youngest Chartered Financial Planners. He has also climbed up Ben Nevis in the dark where he and five friends raised £7,000 for Help the Heroes.”

Former apprentice Ben added: “It’s fantastic to be recognised in this way by the Nottingham Chartered Insurance Institute. The culture of learning within The RU Group inspires us to be the best we can in our roles and I am working hard towards achieving Chartered Status. It is a real honour to learn from my peers and colleagues and be part of such a great team.”

Ian Browne, Head of Advice for The RU Group, believes Ben’s appetite for learning has helped his achievements, commenting: “Ben’s positive and helpful attitude since he joined us as an apprentice has made him a real asset to our team. His thirst for knowledge, coupled with his head for figures and excellent IT skills make him a positive role model for other young people looking to join our business.

The Nottingham CII High Achiever Award is a highly prestigious prize awarded to the local general insurance or financial services professional who has demonstrated the highest levels of attitude, performance and achievement in their working life and is judged by an independent panel of five industry experts.

The judges expressed that all the applicants in the category were doing things in their businesses far beyond their years, commenting that: “Ben stood out as his achievements were the most developed and well rounded. He is making a great impact on his business for clients and internally he has been given extra responsibilities.

“He gives great support and energy to his colleagues and he is championing apprenticeships in his industry by taking part in radio interviews, in addition to his charity work. All in all, a great employee and a very high achiever.”
