Market Harborough’s first gin bar opens at canal basin

Market Harborough’s very first gin bar is set to open next week on Friday 11th March.

Gin & Fizz, which is located above The Waterfront at the canal basin off Leicester Road, will be stocking award-winning speciality gins supplied by Leicestershire-based gin makers Burleighs.

In addition, the bar will serve a range of 12 different cocktails and sparkling wine. Two popular gin drinks will also be available: the Spritz, an aperitif cocktail commonly served in Northern Italy, with a wine base, a dash of liqueur and sparkling water, and the Shrub, which includes fresh fruit and sugar dissolved in the base.

Stephanie Hamblin, owner of The Waterfront and the Foxton Locks Inn, said: “We are very excited to be bringing the first gin bar to the town.

“Gin has become a hugely popular and hip drink over the past couple of years, and there is a real demand for high quality gin based drinks. We are also delighted to be stocking Burleighs Gin, which is made nearby and is a brand highly respected by gin connoisseurs.”

The bar, which has been recently refurbished, will be open Wednesday to Saturday evenings from 5pm.

Hamblin added: “Gin & Fizz complements The Waterfront perfectly; people can come for an aperitif or a nightcap after their meal, as well as just popping in for a drink.”

The bar is the latest addition to the range of businesses at the historic canal basin. The basin and canal are popular with boaters, runners, dog walkers and visitors.
