Game on for Derby business community

Applications have opened early for the second annual Derby Business Games due to the resounding success of the event.

The Derby Business Games will be held on June 14 at the University of Derby in Kedleston Road – organised by Derby-based HUUB Events and Timms Solicitors.

A maximum 32 teams of eight can enter and there will be entertainment, food and drink available for spectators who are invited to come along and cheer on their colleagues, family and friends.

Derby Business Games is designed to be a ‘grown up’ version of the school sports day, where teams will compete in a wide range of competitions from rounders and dodgeball to egg and wheelbarrow races in the event. The afternoon finishes with relays and a tug of war finale before trophies and medals are presented.

One of the main winners at the first event this summer was commercial property agents FHP who won the rounders, sack race and wheelbarrow events. Sporting Joint were joint winners of the dodgeball competition and also won the welly wanging competition.

Digital design agency 3 Guru won the egg and spoon race final whilst wooden spoons were awarded to Timms solicitors and the University of Derby teams.

HUUB Events organiser Claire Duffin said: “The first Derby Business Games were such a huge success that we are already getting calls from companies wanting to reserve a place in the 2018 re-match.

“Teams will be entered on a first-come, first-serve basis so I would urge colleagues to get the date in their diary now and put their names down early to avoid disappointment.”

Timms’ Managing Partner Fiona Moffat said the firm was delighted to be sponsoring the 2018 event again – despite the company going home with the wooden spoon at the first Derby Business Games in July.

Moffat commented: “Derby Business Games was so much fun that we were keen to work with HUUB Events to bring the event back for summer 2018.

“Everybody entered into the friendly but competitive spirit at this summer’s event and it was great to see so many people recapture their youth and hark back to their school sports day.”
