A baby loss charity which is on a mission to raise £1m for a Remembrance Garden in Nottinghamshire has been given a tasty boost with the addition of a charity burger to the menu of East Leake pub The Three Horseshoes.
The idea came from manager Kelly Stackhouse who learned about the charity through one of the trustees and was keen to see what they could do to help raise money for the cause. The Three Horseshoes is owned by the Nottinghamshire-based Pub People company which owns and operates around 50 pubs in the East Midlands.
They provide pub management, accounting and marketing services for national and local clients and are keen to support charities where they can, with a huge range of activities and fundraising initiatives across the group of pubs they own.
Kelly explains: “I had heard about Forever Stars through the work they have done in creating the two Serenity Suites in Nottingham at the QMC and City Hospital and had always admired their strength and passion to make a difference. Then when I heard about their plans for the Remembrance Garden and that they needed to raise such an ambitious target I was really keen to get involved.
“I spoke with the team here at the Three Horseshoes and we came up with the Forever Stars burger idea where for every burger that is purchased we donate 50 pence. It may not sound like much at first but our burgers are very popular and this will soon make a difference. I then pitched the idea to our management team at the Pub People and they loved it. They’ve been very supportive and now we just want to raise as much money as we can for this fantastic cause.”
Forever Stars was setup following the stillbirth of Emily Daniels on December 19th 2013. Although Emily was stillborn, Michelle and Richard had to go back on to the labour ward where the surrounded by the sounds of childbirth, families celebrating and of course the sound of healthy babies.
Michelle and Richard decided that they would fundraise in the name of their daughter to facilitate the building and equipping of bereavement suites and other support material and facilities of future bereaved parents in and around the East Midlands. Having funded and built the two suites at the QMC and City hospitals, Forever Stars are now focused on the creation of the #ForeverInBloom Remembrance Garden at Highfields Park.
Pub People Marketing Manager Mark Gallagher said: “This is a fantastic cause and when we heard about Kelly’s idea we were very keen to help her get this idea up and running immediately. Great pubs are run by people with passion and are at the heart of the local community and Kelly embodies those values. We wish her and the Three Horseshoes team all the best with this great initiative and are proud that we can play a small part in the big fundraising challenge ahead for Forever Stars.”
