East Midlands businesses saddle up for charity at CAPs Ladies Day event

Members of the East Midlands business community were hot to trot at the Fraser Brown and Gleeds construction and property (CAPs) Ladies Day event, which raised over £5,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Held at The Carriage Halls in Plumtree, Nottinghamshire in June, the CAPs Ladies Day event was organised by Nottingham and Lincoln-based law firm Fraser Brown Solicitors and global property consultancy Gleeds, to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

120 attendees from regional businesses arrived in style in vintage red buses, starting the day with welcome reception drinks followed by a three-course lunch before taking part in an indoor charity horse race game.

Companies generously booked tables and sponsored different aspects of the day such as drinks upon arrival, prizes, table arrangements, horses and races.

Special guests in attendance at the event were John and Jan Brooks, the parents of Sarah Brooks, a young lady who tragically lost her life to cancer at the tender age of 15 back in 2003.

As a charity close to their hearts, Mr and Mrs Brooks have been fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust for several years, as part as their daughter’s legacy.

On the day, Mr and Mrs Brooks, alongside the charity, ran and provided expert commentary on the table-top horse race game, which attendees all got involved in.

John Brooks said: “With first-hand experience of losing a dear teenager – my daughter, to cancer, we know more than most the incredible and important work that the Teenage Cancer Trust does to help and support young people through difficult times.

“Keeping my daughter Sarah’s memory alive is very important to my wife and I and fundraising events such as the Ladies Day help to keep that legacy moving forward. I’d like to thank David at Gleeds and John at Fraser Brown for their energy and enthusiasm in orchestrating what was a hugely successful event in terms of the number of guests, the format of the day and the funds raised. This money will be used to support other families like us who find themselves in a heart-breaking situation.”

Regional fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust, Joanne Benbow, was also present at the event.

John Tansur, commercial director at Fraser Brown Solicitors, said: “It was fantastic to see so many of the region’s top professionals turn out to support such a great cause.

“When we put these events together, we are always amazed and humbled by the support we receive and also by the enthusiasm that the sector throws behind the days. It really is a pleasure to work in this sector with such a great group of people.”

Dave Ford, director of Gleeds, said: “Gleeds was proud to work in partnership with Fraser Brown in bringing together the hugely successful CAPS Ladies Day. The generosity of all the sponsors and guests was overwhelming and the money raised on the day is a credit to all concerned.”

Main sponsors of the Ladies Day event included Proici Commercial Interiors, Curtins, Alea Casino, Jennie Holland PR, Blackmore commercial Vehicles and The Carriage Halls.

In June, Fraser Brown held a charity Golf Day at The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club in Cotgrave which raised over £4,000 for Autism East Midlands; a charity which provides support to families and individuals affected by autism, and Newlife; a charity that helps disabled children and their families across the UK.

Fraser Brown and Gleeds are organising a CAPs Golf Day which will be taking place on 13th September this year at the Stapleford Park Country House Hotel in Leicestershire. Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event and to register your interest to take part, please contact Rebecca Young at Fraser Brown on 0115 9888777.
