Caravan and motorhome dealer sets up shop in car park of retail outlet centre

A leading Derby area caravan and motorhome dealer has set up an “outdoor showroom” at a nearby retail centre.

Geoff Cox Cars, of Derby Road, Denby, has rented space on the car park of the outlet shop of the world famous Denby Pottery nearby and is using it to promote and sell its motorhomes and caravans.

Up to 40 vehicles are on display, ranging from caravans selling at £10,000 to top of the range motorhomes costing up to £100,000.

Geoff Cox has previously exhibited vehicles on the car park of Denby Pottery Village for short periods, and the company sees the link-up as an extension of that experience.

Managing director Neil Cox said: “We are taking the motorhomes and caravans to the shoppers.

“The venue is a busy retail centre, particularly at weekends and holidays.

“This is an attempt to attract a new generation of users in addition to the traditional buyers, and as the car park is in rural setting it can give people the feel of being at a caravan park.”

At least two sales staff are on hand to show would-be purchases around the different vehicles and their various features, some of which are considered luxury or state-of-the-art items.

With all motorhome and caravan sales being conducted from the Denby Pottery site, a workshop at the headquarters site, which is also a Ford Dealership, will be a fully functional service centre for all types of motorhomes and caravans, both from the Adria range and nearly new vehicles.

Geoff Cox has been the Adria dealer of the year in Britain for the past four years. The company sells motorhomes and caravans worth about £6m a year.

Last week at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, the company sold 12 vehicles worth around £500,000. This was in addition to selling vehicles worth more than £1m at a similar event last October.
