National engineering consultancy Morgan Tucker has congratulated two of its apprentice engineers after they were both awarded the prestigious Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) QUEST Technician Scholarship last month.
Structural technicians Sam Johnson and David Scrafton beat more than 20 other strong candidates across the East Midlands to win £750 each to put towards further education and training within the industry.
The scholarship recognises key young engineers in the region who have potential to achieve great things in their future careers.
Johnson said: “I wanted to apply for this award after I was encouraged to do so by my colleagues. It sounded like a fantastic opportunity to further my career with the support of qualified professionals at Morgan Tucker.
“I feel very proud to have won the scholarship, especially because there was a large number of very talented and ambitious applicants in the region. It has inspired me to keep progressing my career in the industry, both with Morgan Tucker and with ICE.
“The award will be incredibly beneficial to both myself and David, allowing us to stand out as professional engineers in the industry. It has also enabled me to invest in useful courses and equipment in my job as well as providing financial aid if I decide to progress onto university.”
Scrafton added: “The award has given me acknowledgement for my hard work, recognising me as a good technician among my colleagues and fellow engineering professionals.
“Morgan Tucker supported David and myself throughout the entire process, suggesting we apply for the awards and advising us during the application. Our managers have also recommended certain courses and further training following on from the award which will enhance our future career development.”
Morgan Tucker is headquartered in Newark and has another six offices across the UK.
Operations director Neil Price said: “I am very pleased that Sam and David’s hard work and training with Morgan Tucker has been recognised and rewarded by the highly respected Institution of Civil Engineers.
“Morgan Tucker prides itself on being an agile and client focused firm. Therefore it is vital that we support our staff by assisting with their training and education to ensure they provide the highest standard and professionalism for our clients. This in turn has allowed us to win a number of large significant projects throughout the UK.
“I hope this scholarship encourages both Sam and David to continue with their academic studies and to guide other technicians and apprentices in the early stages of their careers with Morgan Tucker.”
