“Credit also must go to Business Link Magazine Group for maintaining the momentum of last year’s awards by delivering an online version of the awards in these surreal times. It is very important we keep things as ‘normal’ as possible and don’t just give up, which would be the easy option, in the face of the pandemic.”

Natalie Gasson-McKinley, Institute of Directors (IoD) Branch Chair, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, who announced the winner of the IoD sponsored category, Deal of the Year, said: “The Bricks are always a fantastic opportunity to showcase the innovation and creativity of the businesses shaping our region’s landscape. This year, it is more important than ever, to celebrate enterprise during what has been a hugely difficult time for many businesses.

“It was reassuring to see that Covid-19 hasn’t diminished resilience, and the high number of entries received demonstrated that a determination to grow and succeed is still strong throughout our business community.

“As sponsors of the Deal of the Year Award, we were impressed by the diverse mix of small and medium-sized businesses that entered. FHP and FHP Student Living were worthy winners for the sale of the former York House. The deal worth £8million, was beacon in a category filled with outstanding examples of inward investment into the region. Congratulations again to David Hargreaves of FHP who led the sale and his wider team.”

Richard Sutton, NG’s Managing Director, added: “This is a fantastic achievement for the team at NG and is testament to all the hard work we’ve put in over the last 12 months under extremely challenging conditions. We’re not one for letting the grass grow under our feet, however, and we’re looking to the next 12 months with optimism.

“I’d like to thank East Midlands Business Link for this award, and also congratulate all the other shortlisted and winning companies at The Bricks. Well done, all.”

Mike McKeown, Client Services Director at Blueprint Interiors, sponsor of the Most Active Agent category, said: “Presenting an award as part of a virtual ceremony was very surreal, but I was delighted that the awards went ahead. Despite having to operate our businesses through these challenging times the construction industry is viewed by Government as one of the key sectors to underpin economic recovery. Continuing to celebrate these successes is important as it helps build positivity for the future.”

“The success of this project stems from the excellent working relationship and collaboration between the G F Tomlinson team, the University of Nottingham and Benoy Architects, which made the design and construction process run so smoothly. Well done to the whole project team including all our supply chain partners – it’s fantastic to see everyone’s hard work rewarded in this way.”

Sheetal Sanghvi of RSM, sponsor of Commercial Development of the Year, said: “RSM were proud to sponsor the 2020 Brick Awards for the first time. As with all the events this year, it was held virtually and was very well organised and ran to time. We also managed to network with a couple of the winners after the award ceremony. Congratulations once again to all the winners and the organisers for a successful event. We hope to be able to meet and network in person in 2021.”

Overall winner (sponsored by Street Chartered Accountants)

Geda Construction Ltd

Marie Boobyer, New Business Manager at GEDA, said: “We are over the moon winning Residential Development of the Year as well as Overall Winner at the 2020 East Midlands Bricks Awards. Elston is a small Rural Historical village and we wanted an Affordable housing scheme to blend in with the historical surroundings and Architecture designs of the local area.

“Our team and wider ‘team’, including NCHA and HLP Architects worked relentlessly with the Parish Council and Planning authority to deliver this scheme and ensure it was in keeping with the requirements of the Local Authority Housing need.

“This award will give everyone involved a much-needed boost in these strange times, it also shows that an ‘Affordable homes’ scheme can compete with any Market scheme. The final winners are Nottingham Community Housing Residents who live in these homes. So thankyou to Business Link for organising, the judges and the sponsors who carried out the online event in the strangest of times.”

James Pinchbeck, Partner at Streets Chartered Accountants, sponsor of Overall Winner, said: “We are delighted to have supported the Bricks 2020. As property and construction tax specialists looking after clients across the East Midlands we recognise the great work and projects those in the sector are involved in.

“New developments, new builds and new schemes for existing properties and sites are common place across the region. The Bricks play an important part in highlighting the excellent work of all those engaged in the sector, not least in the challenging times we currently face. This year’s Awards included a host of a great entries and winners not least the recipient of the Streets sponsored overall winner, Geda Construction.”
