On Sunday the 5th of August the highly anticipated Dragon Boat challenge will be returning to the Nottingham Riverside Festival, and there’s still time to sign up your team!

Up to 10 people can paddle each boat, with a drummer beating time at the front, and a helm – who will be provided for this event – at the tail.

50 crews are to battle it out on the 200m race course on the River Trent at the Victoria Embankment, while cheered on by thousands of spectators at the Riverside Festival, one of Nottingham City Council’s largest family events.

The Riverside festival will feature a bustling fair and vibrant mix of music, dance, crafts and food from around the world. East Midlands Business Link are proud partners to the challenge.

For the race, Gable Events has once again partnered with Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. Rainbows is the only hospice in the East Midlands providing care and support to children with life-limiting illnesses from across the region.

Rainbows also look after the wider families of the children – mums and dads, brothers and sisters, grandparents – as life shortening illnesses affect everyone. Participation in the Dragon Boat challenge will make a difference for over 380 children and their families from across the East Midlands, and the money raised will help these families make the most of the time they have together. You will be allowing precious memories to be made and treasured forever.

Tom Stanyard, Corporate Partnership Fundraiser at Rainbows, said: “The Dragon Boat Challenge is an amazing event. With up to 50 companies competing for a number of prizes the day has a great atmosphere. More amazing than the event however is what Rainbows is able to do with the fundraising support we receive from the crews taking part. With only a small amount of guaranteed funding, your support at events like this makes it possible for us to help and care for those families who need it most.”

The top fundraisers for Rainbows will win the charity trophy plus a special prize lunch kindly donated by Forty Four Bridgford, an independent cocktail bar and kitchen in Nottingham.
