Summer passenger numbers continue to grow at East Midlands Airport

Nearly 560,000 passengers flew to and from East Midlands Airport last month (June) – almost 1000 passengers more than the same month last year.

Despite the World Cup and the unusually warm UK summer, holiday makers are still seeking sunshine respite overseas. This bodes well for the school holiday period. The airport is anticipating that its busiest periods will be the weekends of 28 July, 4 and 11 of August and the weekend of the 1 September.

The top five destinations that have seen a year on year increase in passenger numbers are:

  • Dalaman
  • Seville
  • Corfu
  • Antalya
  • Almeria

In the top 10 most popular destinations to fry to from EMA are:

  • Tenerife
  • Malaga
  • Palma
  • Faro
  • Lanzarote
  • Fuerteventura
  • Gran Canaria

Heidi Barlow, EMA’s Head of Marketing, said: “We’re delighted that the summer season is performing so well. We’re looking forward to welcoming thousands of families to the airport during the school summer holidays, many of whom will be flying away to beach destinations across Europe.”
