Notts businesses to learn about trade opportunities with India

Business leaders from across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are being invited to discover more about the prospects of trading overseas at a free event focused on boosting the region’s links with India.

The “Gateway to India” full-day event will take place on Friday, 28th October – during Diwali – at the Curve Theatre in Leicester, and will be attended by the British deputy high commissioner for Gujarat and senior UK trade advisors.

Hosted by Leicester City Council in partnership with Santander, the Department for International Trade (DIT), LLEP Business Gateway and East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, the event will focus on trade and investment opportunities for Notts businesses in the Chandigarh and Gujarat regions of India.

DIT Export Hub trucks will also be at the event, with international trade advisors offering one-to-one meetings and a list of live contracts with business contacts in India.

Ian Harrison, regional director at DIT, said: “We want to help Nottinghamshire businesses scale up and take advantage of the global appetite for British goods and services. The Export Hub is part of our ‘Exporting is GREAT’ campaign, through which we know there are thousands of opportunities out there every day for UK businesses – and this is your chance to get involved.

“Export is at the centre of the new Department for International Trade and is perfectly placed to bring together the whole of government, industry and our extensive overseas network to help UK businesses win lucrative deals”.

Helen Donnellan, inward investment director at Leicester City Council, said: “In partnership with the LLEP Business Gateway and the Midlands Engine, ‘Gateway to India’ will promote inward investment and trade opportunities for Nottinghamshire businesses. The event provides the perfect opportunity to align the celebration of business and culture”.

David Wright, LLEP business gateway manager, added: “We are delighted to be holding this event during the festival fortnight. Diwali also falls on 30th October, so this is a great opportunity to share the celebrations with other businesses across the Midlands and invite them to attend our event in Leicester to explore the many trade opportunities available in India.

“The ‘Gateway to India’ event will bring the relevant business support services together, enabling businesses to discover the network of support available to help them successfully access markets in India”.
