Nottingham Trent University soars in Guardian University Guide to 16th in the UK

Nottingham Trent University is once again one of the biggest climbers in a national league table focusing on student satisfaction and graduate employment.

The Guardian University Guide 2019, published today (May 29), shows the University has risen to 16th place in the overall table – a jump of 18 places, while The University of Leicester drops 20 places to 63rd, and De Montfort climbs 23 places to 71st.

For Nottingham Trent University, this year’s success follows on from the university jumping 19 places last year, when it was placed 34th.

The Guardian University league table is based on ratings in a variety of areas, such as student satisfaction, employment outcomes, the amount spent by universities per student and how effective teaching is. As well as the overarching table, the tables also revealed that NTU is:

  • Top 5 for fashion & textiles; building, town & country planning; agriculture, forestry & food
  • Top 10 for design & crafts; psychology; accounting & finance; criminology and film production & photography
  • Top 20 for biosciences; chemistry; economics; business, management & marketing; drama & dance; engineering (civil); geography & environmental studies; journalism, publishing & public relations; philosophy; social work

This follows a string of successes for the University in the past academic year, when it was named as University of the Year 2017 at the Times Higher Education Awards and Modern University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. It was also awarded the highest gold rating in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework for its outstanding teaching and learning.
