According to leading think tank ‘Centre for Cities’, Derby is now a top 5 UK location for innovation.
The latest research places Derby fourth for patent applications, placing it well above London, as well as the rest of the East Midlands.
Patent data is widely used to measure innovation. The data is based on the number of patent applications, at their date of publication (in 2015). Applications are usually published about 18 months after the application is submitted to the patent authority.
As John Forkin, Managing Director of Marketing Derby, told East Midlands Business Link: “Derby has a rich history as the UK Capital for Innovation – the birthplace of the industrial revolution. This latest research by Centre for Cities cements Derby’s position as a top location for innovation.”
