Icomera, a subsidiary of ENGIE Ineo, has acquired dg8 design and engineering through its own subsidiary Icomera UK.

Founded in 2008, dg8 is a design and engineering group based in Derby. dg8 has primarily worked with clients in the rail transport sector and its team has extensive experience of the rail vehicle market, working at all tiers of the supply chain.

Icomera is known as a provider of Passenger Wi-Fi for public transport, connecting millions of users and tens of thousands of vehicles to the Internet every day around the globe. In addition to Wi-Fi for passengers, Icomera’s connectivity offering is part of the digitalisation of public transport, which is key to improving the appeal of green mobility and reducing operating and maintenance costs.

The skills of dg8 and Icomera are part of ENGIE’s desire to offer the transport sector, as well as all major energy-consuming sectors, a complete solution for operators in their own digital and energy evolutions.

“The acquisition of dg8 strengthens Icomera’s ability to deliver the truly interconnected eco-systems of onboard systems and services required for fully realising the potential of the connected vehicle for passengers and operators,” said Dave Palmer, Managing Director of Icomera UK. “Icomera and dg8 have successfully collaborated on many projects previously and now the closer integration of the teams makes us even stronger digital partners for our clients.”

“Our expertise has always allowed us to give our clients concepts that can be turned into real solutions. By joining ENGIE Ineo, we are consolidating our expertise and resources” said Mark Hoptroff, Director of dg8. “We are eager to offer ever more innovative and high-quality solutions.”

dg8 will operate as a separate professional services business unit of Icomera UK and its 33 designers and engineers will continue to work from their current facility in Derby. The team will support system integration and consultancy projects, mechanical and electrical design work, and fabrication and installation services.
