With the countdown to Brexit quickly ticking away, Business Link Magazine invites a select number of the region’s business leaders to offer their thoughts.
Here we talk with Ben Tebbutt, Director, Box Property Consultants.
Well what a mess we seem to have got ourselves into! #brexit
When David Cameron decided the public could decide on whether the country wanted to leave the EU, he no doubt thought it would be a landslide vote to remain. He got it wrong and it cost him his political career.
Now, some time later, we realise that the hard line Brexiter’s statements (an extra £350m for the NHS every week) were, at best, misjudged and very wide of the mark. I don’t believe The Rees-Moggs and Boris Johnson’s of this world are really the people who should be deciding the future of this country, nor indeed are the far left views of Corbyn and Abbot. Their views are too extreme and don’t represent the vast majority of the British people.
Most people thought that Theresa May would be long gone by now after being given the hospital pass of all hospital passes. She has to negotiate, mediate and compromise in order to find a solution. So far she appears to be doing a very good job.
The rest of Europe are our neighbours, we need to respect them, and work with them in the future – why would we want to antagonise them and isolate ourselves from future business? Stability is an absolute must, a no deal Brexit does not bare thinking about. For the Millions of hard working families in this country, let’s hope the politicians vote this Brexit deal through and we can all get back to working hard in a stable economic climate!
