A delegation from China’s Anhui Province, including top government officials and leaders in business, arrives in Chesterfield on Friday 19th October to promote travel and tourism to their home province.

Led by Vice Governor of Anhui Province Mr Yang Guangrong, the delegation’s visit will further strengthen the ongoing partnership between Anhui Province and Derbyshire County.

The group will meet with Cllr Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council and will also liaise with Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire and to mutually promote tourism between the areas.

The event will be an opportunity for the delegation to demonstrate that there are beautiful places to visit in China outside of Beijing and Shanghai, that tourists tend to visit when travelling to the Far East.

Derbyshire County Council’s Council Leader, Councillor Barry Lewis, said: “I’m looking forward to meeting our visitors from Anhui Province. It’s going to be really interesting to learn more about the opportunities for tourists to visit the area.”

“And it will be great to share the delights of the Peak District and Derbyshire with the delegation as tourism is an important part of our local economy.  The population of the province is about 60 million people, a growing number of whom love to travel so we hope to welcome many more visitors in the future.”

Anhui Province boasts historic sites with UNESCO World Heritage status and stunning mountain landscapes that are very different to, though equally as breath taking, as the Peak District.

Whilst the group plans to promote travel and tourism, they also welcome attendees looking to create business links between Derbyshire and China in other industries.
