Two new starters join Mazars’ corporate finance department

The East Midlands offices of Mazars, the international accountancy firm, have kick-started the year with the appointment of two new recruits to their corporate finance team.

The latest appointments come after a string of recruits across the board last year and will further strengthen the firm’s corporate finance offering in the Midlands.

Paul Pownall joins the team as corporate finance manager and brings over 25 years’ experience to the role having worked as the director of business development at Santander Corporate Bank and for accountancy firm, Tenon, heading up business development across the East Midlands for ten years prior to that. His previous experience also includes 15 years in business and corporate banking with Natwest.

He said: “Having worked with the local partner team during my time at Tenon, I already knew first-hand what a great team there was at Mazars. Mazars has an established presence in the local corporate finance market and they are currently enjoying record levels of project mandates. I see a continued bright future for Mazars and I look forward to seeing the company grow even further going forward”.

In his new role, Pownall will be working with clients to support their project in a lead advisory capacity. He will be handling disposals, acquisitions, fund raising exercises and management buy-outs as well as managing projects through to a successful completion.

Meanwhile, Line Gauteplass joins the team as corporate finance senior after working as an analyst for BNP Paribas in London in their fixed income department. During her time at BNP Paribas, Line worked with the credit trading business with a main focus on the primary market and was also made a London Branch junior board member.

She said: “I knew Mazars was a top ten UK accountancy firm, but after hearing about how much their East Midlands teams had grown over the past three years, Mazars were at the forefront of my mind when I made the decision to relocate to Nottingham. I wanted the opportunity to be a part of a company that has a strong brand, future growth prospects and the eagerness to go forward and that’s exactly what I’ve found with Mazars.

“Mazars not only has extremely passionate and talented employees, but their strong client focus enables them to retain clients and grow organically through the high quality service they provide. Mazars is eager to challenge and bring out the best in their employees, which benefits both the clients and the employees themselves. I believe Mazars will continue to grow and has a strong future ahead of it”.

Line will be based at Mazars’ Nottingham office and will be working on all parts of the deal process.

Paul Bevan, partner at Mazars, said: “The recruitment of both Line and Paul to the team marks a fantastic start to what is set to be another exciting year for Mazars in the East Midlands. The past few years have seen our Midlands offices grow, strengthen and develop and welcoming Line and Paul to the team will help to further cement us as big key players here in the Midlands”.
