Flood funding made available to prevent damage to Derbyshire businesses

Derbyshire business owners affected by the November 2019 or February 2020 floods are being encouraged to apply for funding to help prevent damage should they be flooded in the future.

The Property Flood Resilience Grant of up to £5,000 per property can fund measures to protect properties. The cash is intended to cover things like moving electrical wall sockets higher up walls or providing flood doors to reduce water entering the property.

It can also cover things like putting in air brick covers, self-closing air bricks, water resistant plaster and the replacement of suspended timber floors with concrete floors.

The grants are only available in certain areas. Those in Derbyshire Dales, Amber Valley, Chesterfield and South Derbyshire who were flooded in November 2019 have until 31 October 2020 to apply for funding.

Those in Erewash, who were flooded in February 2020 have until 30 November 2020 to apply for the cash.

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said: “The floods had a devastating effect on many households, residents and businesses and this money will help to protect properties from future flooding.

“I’d encourage anyone affected to apply for financial support so they can put in measures that will help should they be flooded again.”
