Yorkshire ‘feel good’ food and drink brand Filmore & Union to open in John Lewis Nottingham

Healthy food and wellness eatery, Filmore & Union is to expand its 16 strong chain with a restaurant in Nottingham city centre later this month.

On Tuesday 27th March 2018, the company will take up residency on the first floor of John Lewis Nottingham. With 60 covers and open for breakfast, coffee and cake and lunch, this will be the third within a John Lewis store following the opening of the John Lewis York restaurant in June 2017 and the John Lewis Newcastle restaurant in February 2018.

Filmore & Union was born from founder Adele Ashley’s frustrations at the lack of healthy restaurants take out delis across Yorkshire and the North East and, after finding the perfect test kitchen in Wetherby the family were sampling new recipes by October the same year.

The name Filmore & Union originates from the family’s time in San Fran as ‘Fillmore’ and ‘Union’ are their two favourite streets.

The new John Lewis Nottingham store will be the first to open in the Midlands. John Lewis look forward to offering the brand’s wellness-inspired juices, organic coffees, healthy breakfasts, gluten free cakes, salads, wraps, bagels signature soups and tagines as well as prosecco and beer to its shoppers and diners in the city.

Ashley says: “After spending the last six years establishing ourselves in Yorkshire and the North East as the ‘go to’ destination for healthy, wholesome, delicious food that doesn’t exclude anyone with special dietary requirements, we’re now looking for unsung foodie capitals across the UK to bring our ‘feel good’ brand to. Nottingham and the East Midlands in general was the next obvious move for us. The region’s independent food and drink scene is seriously on the up and we want to be part of it! Our aim is to build a nationwide chain which retains its independent feel with each restaurant having a strong local supply chain, embedded into its local community. Our chilled out, relaxed atmosphere with premium, cosy interiors and high quality food fits perfectly within the John Lewis brand and we can’t wait to see what new local customers think.”

Lewis Evenden Head of Branch at John Lewis Nottingham, adds: “We’re delighted to welcome Filmore & Union into our shop and to be part of their expansion. We are sure our customers in Nottingham will love their fresh and wholesome food and we are delighted to be the first place in our region to serve it.”

Filmore & Union is accredited by Coeliac UK and have received a commendation from the Free From awards for their dedication and passion to catering for those avoiding gluten and dairy. It was also shortlisted in the Menu Innovation category of the Casual Dining Awards 2018 and has been named in the Sunday Times Top 3 Healthy Eateries and the Top 50 Northern Restaurants and Bars.
