Nottingham-based retail packaging firm The Wilkins Group has invested £300,000 in a new state-of-the-art foil blocking machine to increase turnaround speed and to offer a point of difference to its customers.
In doing so, the company has placed itself in a unique position by moving what is normally an outsourced service in-house.
Justin Wilkins, sales and marketing director at The Wilkins Group, said: “There has been a shift in the market, where once high quality attractive packaging was reserved for the cosmetics and garment industries, now all sectors want unique, innovative packaging and we need to be able to offer that service.
“We have invested in this machine to not only offer a high quality product but to increase efficiency and lower our carbon footprint. The new investment will make us more reactive to any sudden demand from our clients, and puts us in a unique and advantageous position over other packaging firms.”
The MK 1060 ST is built for fast throughput and, depending upon the amount of foil used, has the capacity to run at more than 7,000 sph.
The packaging and print specialist also recently invested over £2m in a new printing press in a bid to increase capacity.
The Wilkins Group, which recorded a turnover of £33m last year, has one of the largest independent packaging factories in the UK and specialises in producing packaging for chilled and frozen food, textiles, confectionery, toiletries and household products.
