Time Out: Anna Melton, Director, In the Works PR

The weekend is almost upon us and that means it’s time for some quick fire questions. This ‘Time Out’ features Anna Melton, Director at Chesterfield-based In the Works PR.

What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?

Breathe a big sigh of relief and get a good night’s sleep! Bizarrely I seem to go to bed earlier on a Friday night than I do the rest of the week. It’s that great feeling knowing that you don’t have to get anything prepped for the following day.

What is your hobby?

I always really struggle with this question. I run a business, have children and home to run as well – the same position many working women are in. Unfortunately my hobbies have become deprioritized as I play taxi driver for my childrens’ numerous hobbies. Give me peace, quiet and good book and I am happy.

What is your favourite movie?

I’m a fan of Muriel’s Wedding and Strictly Ballroom. Those films always make me smile and want to dress up in some satin and sequins.

If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?

The career I would have loved was to have been a newsreader. However, I think I would have always gravitated towards PR or journalism. Since entering the profession 25 years ago, I have never wanted to leave it. Every day is different and there’s always a new challenge around the corner. It’s a career that keeps you on your toes. You can’t ever be complacent.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

With a doubt, it would be the power to read people’s thoughts.

What is your favourite genre of music?

I love cheesy pop. Anything that gets me singing along and mum dancing is good in my book.

If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?

I’d go back to my teens/early 20s and tell myself to stop worrying about what other people thought of me. To hold my head high and not to let other people stand in the way of following my dreams. And also to be a bit more adventurous. Who knows, maybe I could have been a newsreader!
