An empty industrial unit at West Carr Business Park in Retford is set to be transformed into a specialist learning facility following approval from Bassetlaw District Council.
The development, led by Polly Teach Ltd, part of Mansfield-based Portland College, will provide education and support for students aged eight to sixteen with special educational needs and disabilities. The site will accommodate up to twelve learners and six staff members during school hours on weekdays.
The project expands Polly Teach’s existing network of alternative education sites across Ashfield, Bassetlaw and Mansfield. The new facility will offer tailored learning programmes for young people who face challenges in mainstream education, aiming to improve their confidence and skills.
Located within a mixed-use business park that includes other small enterprises, the site will be accessed through a controlled gate shared with neighbouring businesses. The move brings new purpose to a previously vacant unit while contributing to the region’s growing emphasis on inclusive education and community-focused regeneration.
