Olympia House Emporium has resumed trading after completing several months of repair work prompted by severe flooding that forced the Chesterfield venue to close earlier this year. The incident caused extensive damage across trading spaces, flooring, electrical systems, and a number of independent trader units, disrupting operations for the businesses that rely on the site.
“We were devastated when the flood hit,” said Sofia Brown, owner of Olympia House Emporium. “But the support we received and our determination to bring Olympia House back stronger than ever have been overwhelming. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through our doors again.”
Restoration work covered all affected areas, including structural and electrical repairs, deep cleaning, updated layouts, improved customer access, redecoration, and the installation of new windows, flat roofs, and flood-mitigation measures. The venue has also introduced refreshed stalls and welcomed additional traders as part of its return.
The emporium reopened on 10 November. Days later, the surrounding area experienced another flooding event that left debris across the car park, although the building itself remained unaffected. The incident underscored the growing operational pressures local businesses face as extreme weather becomes more frequent.
Olympia House has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its trader community and maintaining a stable, resilient trading environment following the extensive recovery work.
