Nottingham businesses move early on funded digital and sustainability support

Nottingham’s business community is beginning to adopt new digital tools, AI capability and sustainability practices through the Nottingham Accelerator initiative. The programme, delivered by East Midlands Chamber for Nottingham City Council, runs until March 2026 and is backed by £124,982 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

East Midlands Chamber Deputy Chief Executive Diane Beresford said: “Nottingham City Council were keen to implement an ambitious programme of business support with AI & Digital at its heart. East Midlands Chamber has developed an engaging range of digital transformation workshops as a result, including on new topics such as Microsoft 365 and Vibe Coding, which uses AI prompts to improve business websites, write code and build apps.”

She continued, “I’m pleased to say that these new topics have been incredibly well received, with businesses reporting that they have practical takeaways which are making an immediate impact on their operations.”

The project has enrolled 235 organisations so far, with many attending workshops on areas such as AI’s role in search, graphic design skills, and practical applications of AI for digital processes.

Twenty-two firms have progressed to tailored consultancy through Growth Vouchers worth up to £2,000, giving them access to expert advice on digital transformation, manufacturing processes, and sustainability planning. Support includes one-to-one guidance, free energy audits, and decarbonisation webinars.

Early beneficiaries reflect the diversity of the local business base. Lace Market Aesthetics is using its voucher to strengthen its digital presence as it launches a new skin regeneration service. Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama has upgraded its website to streamline the application journey for prospective students. Film producer Wellington Films has invested in financial risk management systems and used linked support to secure funding to attend an international industry event.

The project continues to roll out further workshops for Nottingham organisations aiming to improve competitiveness and resilience through digital adoption and low-carbon practices.
