Derby shoppers set for a sweet treat

Independent confectionery specialist The Treat Kitchen is set to open in Derby this weekend, creating new jobs in the city.

The Treat Kitchen is an independent, family run confectionery company which was set up by couple Jess & Martin Barnett, in Nottingham in September 2014. Since then they have also opened a second venture in Leicester’s Highcross centre, with support from a business loan from First Enterprise.

“I come from a long line of sweet makers,” said Martin. “A member of the Barnett family has been making sweets in the region since 1896 so it’s fantastic that we can continue the tradition.“We currently sell around four tonnes of fudge per year as well as 300 different types of sweets and chocolates, all of which we make ourselves in store.

“After the great success and popularity of the Treat Kitchen in Nottingham and Leicester, we felt it was only natural to expand the business and enter the bustling city of Derby – and we’re looking forward to opening our doors.”

The Derby store will be located in the Intu shopping centre.
