Chesterfield schemes progress in regional investment pipeline

A series of regeneration proposals in Chesterfield and Staveley have advanced to the East Midlands Combined County Authority’s £25 million Investment Fund pipeline. The fund is designed to support schemes that revitalise town centres, expand business space, stimulate job creation, and accelerate low-carbon growth across the region.

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward said the funding marks another major step forward in the shared ambition to unlock the region’s potential, with inclusive growth guiding all investment activity to ensure benefits reach communities of all sizes. She said the projects will help create new opportunities, drive innovation, support local jobs, and strengthen community foundations.

Two Derbyshire schemes have now moved into detailed assessment. The Staveley Investment Programme includes upgrades to Barrow Hill Memorial Hall, creating new community spaces, early years provision, and facilities for health services.

It will also help complete the Staveley Moorings and Staveley Basin developments. Chesterfield’s Town Centre Masterplan progresses with plans for new housing in the Spire Neighbourhood, expanded business accommodation, and continued improvements to Stephenson Memorial Hall, including its theatre, museum, gallery, and community areas.

Cllr Rob Reaney of Derbyshire County Council said the authority is working in partnership with district and borough councils as part of wider county-level regeneration plans. He said support from EMCCA will help boost businesses, deliver economic benefits, and improve local spaces for residents.

Other initiatives across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire entering the fund’s pipeline include Clay Cross Town Deal, Ashbourne Reborn, Long Eaton Town Deal, Stapleford Pencil Works, Greening Growth in Giltbrook, Yorke Drive Housing in Newark, Sherwood Revival in Ollerton, and Becketwell Enabling.

All approved schemes are undergoing final due diligence before funding allocation. The region continues to progress major developments, including the South Derbyshire Growth Zone, the Broadmarsh site regeneration in Nottingham, and the launch of the Infinity Prototyping Centre at Infinity Park East Midlands.
