Charnwood businesses encouraged to strengthen resilience to disruptions

A new initiative is being launched to help businesses in Charnwood improve their preparedness for unexpected events such as fires, flooding, and IT system failures. The project is led by the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum (LRF) and supported by Cambridge Risk Solutions.

Zafar Saleem, the LRF Executive Lead for Community Resilience, said: “Emergencies like flooding or cyber attacks can happen at any time so it’s crucial that local businesses identify the risks that might affect them and plan ahead.

“This project will give businesses the tools to be prepared, respond effectively and bounce back more quickly, in the event of an emergency.”

The scheme aims to raise awareness of business resilience and encourage local companies to collaborate on strengthening community readiness. It includes the creation of a practical toolkit designed for small and medium-sized enterprises, providing step-by-step guidance on developing business continuity plans.

Alongside the toolkit, an in-person launch event and a series of webinars will help firms assess their risk exposure and implement preventive measures. The programme will also see the development of Business Community Response Plans to outline how organisations can support one another and their surrounding communities during and after major incidents.

Funded through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Local Resilience Forum Innovation Grant scheme, the project forms part of a broader effort to build more resilient local economies across the Midlands.
