Mike Ashley has been re-elected as the CEO of Shirebrook-based Sports Direct, at the retailer’s AGM.
Directors David Daly, David Brayshaw, and Richard Bottomley, have been re-elected to their positions and Cally Price and Nicola Frampton have also been elected as Directors.
The vote followed the news that Sports Direct were still searching for a new auditor and, according to a Sky News report, imploring the big four accountants to pitch for its audit contract.
According to Sky News, if the Shirebrook-based business fails to replace previous auditor Grant Thornton, which resigned in August even though Sports Direct had intended to continue with the firm, it may lead to business secretary Andrea Leadsom organising the appointment of a new auditor.
Ashley’s re-appointment follows Sports Direct’s backing of a legal challenge against Debenhams’ restructuring plan, as well as its tumultuous delayed results, an expression of regret over acquiring House of Fraser, and the revelation that the firm has been the subject of a tax audit in Belgium, receiving a payment notice from the Belgian tax authorities for €674 million.
