East Midlands Airport has added Hong Kong Air Cargo to its fast-expanding roster of freight operators, marking the seventh new cargo airline to begin services there in 2025. The carrier has launched charter flights between Hong Kong and the East Midlands using its Airbus A330-200F fleet.
The airport has recorded an 11.4% rise in annual cargo volumes, supported by new entrants including Atlas Air, Ethiopian Cargo, Etihad Cargo, Central Airlines, SF Express, and Saudia Cargo. Its 24-hour operations, central UK position, and established freight infrastructure continue to attract long-haul and transcontinental carriers seeking access to UK distribution networks.
Hong Kong Air Cargo’s arrival strengthens the airport’s role in linking UK businesses with Asian supply chains. The operator, established in 2017, connects key markets across Asia and Europe and is expanding its charter activity into the UK through East Midlands.
The airport is preparing for further growth through plans to develop 50 hectares of land beside the runway for future cargo facilities. Forecasts indicate long-term demand for freight services could increase by more than 50% over the next two decades, positioning East Midlands as a critical logistics hub for retailers, manufacturers, and distribution firms.
