Ideal forthose whospend time away fromtheir officeEDITOR’S NOTESwww.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk East Midlands Business Link 3The sad news of Jim Taylor's passing has overshadowed what has been an otherwise positivemonth for the East Midlands commercial property sector. I won't pretend I knew Jim as well asothers (or as much as I probably should have), but his death leaves a big whole - especially inNottingham.Jim would no doubt have been very excited about the annoucemnents coming out of MIPIMrecently. Firstly, Nottingham City Council has been on the front foot and has taken control of theGuildhall site, which has been dormant for around two years, in order to force it forward. There'stalk of an up market hotel being built on site. Whilst the Council also has plans to become an anchortenant at Peel's long-awaited Unity Square scheme, where it will take office space and also bringforward another new hotel - something which Nottingham desperately needs.Over in Derby, and the city has been named the best small city in the UK by fDI. This shouldn't bedismissed as just another award; it's something that Derby can be rightly proud of. It's inwardinvestment record is second to none, and the jon that Marketing Derby does continues to defy allreason. More power to their arm.In Leicester, we heard that the city and county councils have announced new investment forLeicester and Leicestershire from a number of national and European funding pots, which they saywill unlock development opportunities, create jobs and improve skills and infrastructure across thecounty from 2015 until 2020.After the long, hard years of the recession, it seems that finally the commercial property market ison the march again. There are those who say that city chiefs should concentrate on keeping theirbig names in the city centres, and on the back of Nottingham losing big names such as PKF CooperParry and EY (which is leaving the East Midlands altogether), then they might have a point. However, it's very hard not get to swept away on a tide of enthusiasm after the lean years, isn't it?In this issue we feature exclusive content from James Taylor at Macildowie on the best ways ofkeeping your staff happy; the importance of continuous learning from Chris Wood atIncorporatewear; and Geoff Gibson and Sean Bremner from LSH on the return of the logisticssector.
