In2018, Nottingham has attracted even more sponsors – and it’s nowthe last chance to sign up.Lorraine said: “The private sector is working with the public sectorand working together to target specific individuals and companies atMIPIM who we would be confident we could work with to bringforward new development schemes in Nottingham.”© shutterstock.com/ Dmitrijs Kaminskis 7 www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk East Midlands Business Link More believe in reputation ofBritish businesses, says CBINew analysis by the Confederation of British Industry has seen a rise in the number ofpeople who believe businesses in the UK have a good reputation.The research, comparing perceptions of businesses between May and November2017, reveals 2 in 3 people think UK businesses have a good reputation, up 7% in 6months.The tracker, conducted by the CBI in partnership with global PR agency, PorterNovelli, and research company, Opinium, revealed that the public are more aware of thevalue business provides in local communities with an increasingly vocal business community emerging in recent months.Importantly, the improvement in business reputation has largely been driven by young people and those in work, with a significant 15% risein positive views among 18-34 year olds. This reinforces the view that younger people are more engaged in the debate about the UK’s future,with the Brexit negotiations and a sharper political debate intensifying the focus on jobs and the economy.Derby tops UK city tableDerby had the third fastest growing city economy in the UK across Q32017, according to The UK Powerhouse study, produced by Irwin Mitchelland the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr).The report revealed a growth of 1.9% GVA, positioning Derby behind onlyCambridge and Aberdeen nationally as the strongest economy in themidlands.Managing Director of Marketing Derby John Forkin commented: “Beinghome to a high tech and advanced manufacturing-based economy hasreally helped the city climb to the top of this table.“We are careful not to take any single ranking too seriously, but Derby isalways there, or thereabouts, in any city economic ranking.”Manufacturers in the UK have been enjoying increased competitiveness onthe global market thanks in part to the weak pound. As the globalheadquarters for Rolls-Royce and UK headquarters for BombardierTransportation and Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, Derby’s economicstrength and resilience has been further bolstered by this depreciation. Theimprovement in UK manufacturing prospects has also caused the city toexperience annual growth in employment of 0.4% as its main employerscontinue to go from strength to strength.Derby looks set to remain the highest-ranking city in the East Midlandsthroughout 2018.All British freightlocomotives to getSiemens control upgradeNetwork Rail has awarded Siemens Rail Automation a multi-million pound contract to supply, install and support itsEuropean Train Control System in-cab signalling equipment onthe 745-strong fleet of Britain’s freight locomotives.The scope of the 10-year contract covers the initial additionof Siemens’ Trainguard ETCS 200 on-board system and theupgrade of the locomotive’s Train Protection Warning System,as well as a further 10-year support period, which will seeSiemens working with Network Rail and six freight operatingcompanies (FOCs).This is the first of a series of contracts which will ultimatelysee the installation of ETCS equipment on the entire fleet ofpassenger and freight locomotives that operate across thenetwork.
