Ashmere Derbyshire held a groundbreaking ceremony which saw the deputy mayor, councilors, main contractors and three generations of the Poxton family in attendance to celebrate the start of build at a brand new 60 bed home in Heanor.
It was a highly anticipated day as it had been over 6 years since they first began the planning process. The project will see 60 care beds in total split over 5 households offering; general elderly residential care, specialist elderly dementia care and 5 luxury suites. The total spend of the project including head office and staff training facilities will be circa £7m
David Poxton Managing Director of Ashmere Derbyshire said “As a company we are always looking for opportunities to grow and so with everything we have learnt over the years about care provision we wanted an excuses to pull all that together under one roof.
“As an investor in people and regional winner of Care Employer of the Year we are also deeply committed to improving the infrastructure and support available to our staff and recognised that we are outgrowing our current facilities.
“The new development represents an opportunity for us to address both of these points through the provision of 60 elderly care beds and brand new training facilities which include mock rooms to observe realistic care scenarios, IT and meeting suites”
Ashmere believes as a local company they have seen Heanor grow to the busy town it is today so when the opportunity came up to purchase the site fronting onto the park and only a 5 minute walk from the town centre it seemed like an ideal chance to expand into the area.
Deputy Mayor Brian Gration said “I believe this will be a great asset to the area and will increase much needed footfall into Heanor town”
