Business management software provider Solutions for Accounting and CRM will support two children’s cancer charities during 2018 – and has already raised almost £750 for one.
Jody Kendall, a Customer Services Coordinator with the Nottingham-based firm, underwent a ‘big chop’ earlier this month, which saw her have her long hair cut in aid of the Little Princess Trust, one of Solutions’ two charity partners for the year – the second being the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Jody had 12-inches cut from her hair and has donated the locks to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair following chemotherapy.
The charity aims to provide a professionally-made wig free of charge as soon as a patient is diagnosed, which helps to reassure them in advance of losing their hair, without the hassle of waiting for one to come.
As well as her hair, Jody also managed to raise £727 in sponsorship. She said: “Cutting so much of my long hair was quite daunting, but the charity is special to me, so it was a small price to pay.
“Some of the young people the Little Princess Trust works with are inspirational, so I was proud to be able to do something to help raise funds and awareness, and let my hair go to a good home.”
Jody’s big chop was the first of a series of events that Solutions staff have planned for the year, which include regular dress down days, bake sales, games, raffles and tombolas, and entering a big team into the Great Notts Bike Ride.
The other charity the firm will be raising funds for, the Teenage Cancer Trust, was the first charity to provide specialist cancer care for young people within the NHS. Its aim is to provide life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone.
Currently, it has 28 specialist units and teams of experts across the UK, including one in Nottingham, which offer young people with cancer the support and care they need from the moment they are diagnosed.
Every year, Solutions staff carry out a host of fundraising activities to raise cash for their chosen charities. Over the past two years, they have raised more than £6,500 for good causes including the Alzheimer’s Society and Nottingham Children’s Hospitals, a charity which provides healthcare and support to young patients and their families.
Solutions’ Managing Director Iain Barker said: “As a local company with strong ties to the community, giving something back is part of our ethos. Over the past few years, we have raised thousands of pounds for our charity partners and we are hoping to do so again in 2018.
“Jody helped us to get off to a fantastic start by braving the big chop for one of our charities for the year and we hope that more colleagues follow her lead throughout the year to raise even more money for both of the causes we are supporting in 2018.
“Cancer affects many people in some way, so these two charities are extremely close to all our hearts here at Solutions. We hope that our contribution to these two amazing charities will help make a difference to those brave young people and their families, allowing them to face cancer without fear.”
