The intellectual property & media team at Spearing Waite has won The Legal 500 “UK Firm of the Year” award (Regional) under the Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) category. The award recognises the quality of Spearing Waite’s work in relation to trade marks, copyright, media, design rights, domain names, and patents. The Legal 500 is the respected independent guide and ranking directory of the legal profession.
The awards are unique in the legal industry as they recognise each element of the professional equally, and just one standout firm is picked for each area of law from each region in the UK.
For the second year running, Spearing Waite’s IP team was shortlisted as the candidate heading the East Midlands region in the “TMT” category. But this year, the team won the national award, beating firms from all the other regions.
Partner and head of intellectual property & media John Buckby said: “It has been a very successful year for Spearing Waite’s IP team, and we are delighted for our work to be recognised at a national level. Winning the award is brilliant news. It shows that our clients are really happy with our work – their independent feedback to The Legal 500’s team is a big part of this”.
Senior partner Tom Bower added: “This is a very impressive achievement for John and the team. Intellectual property is a specialism which we are continuing to develop as our reputation for delivering high quality IP advice to clients keeps growing. Most businesses own intellectual property even if they are not aware of it. As a leading advisor in this area, Spearing Waite is well positioned to help them”.
