Speaking at the relaunch of Boots flagship store, in Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, Stefano Pessina, CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), says the pharmacy chain is helping to improve the lives of tens of millions of people worldwide.
Nottingham-based Boots, founded in the city in 1849, was merged with pan-European wholesale and retail group Alliance UniChem in 2007.
Seven years later Alliance Boots completed a tie-up with US-based pharmacy firm Walgreens. Pessina masterminded both deals and is Illinois-based WBA’s biggest shareholder.
Speaking at a ceremony near the store’s main entrance, following its seven-figure revamp, Pessina says: “Ten years ago, we started a journey to showcase the Boots brand and Boots products to the world and it’s now an international brand. Its products are sold across the world, and that’s managed from here in Nottingham.
“We’re part of a global family that make a real difference to the lives of tens of millions of our patients and customers around the world.”
Elizabeth Fagan, Boots Managing Director, said: “The things that matter most to customers when shopping remain constant – great care and customer service.”
The 28,800 sq ft unit first opened in 1972 and is Boots’ biggest flagship store.
