Northamptonshire and East Midlands directors and guests experienced the “performance through people” initiative at work during a visit to the Weetabix Food Company global headquarters in Burton Latimer, Kettering .
The company, which makes the nation’s favourite cereal, employs over 1,000 people in the UK. Attendees were able to see LEAN manufacturing in practice as they were given a tour of the factory which produces the Alpen range.
Sarah Canning, Chair of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Northamptonshire Committee which organised the visit, commented: “This was a fantastic educational visit for us as we heard about the mechanics of the processes in cereal production and the supporting activities which take place to ensure employees understand the goals, take accountability and drive outputs. It was a privilege to meet many of the staff and to see their professionalism.”
Manufacturing Managers Paul Middlehurst and Sam Covell provided a briefing for the business guests, who then toured the Burton Latimer plant.
Paul commented: “We were delighted to welcome the Institute of Directors to the Weetabix Food Company. Our manufacturing and engineering teams work hard to excel and visits like this are a fantastic opportunity to show off what we’ve achieved. Being able to share our experiences and learn from other companies enables us to continue growing through collaboration and builds invaluable working relationships. The team here are very proud and grateful to have had the opportunity.”
