West Nottinghamshire College student Joe Redman has joined Kirkby in Ashfield-based metal railings and gates manufacturer Alpha Rail as an apprentice business development coordinator.
Redman has recently achieved a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Interactive Media. During his college course he spent time volunteering at a local primary school.
In his new role at Alpha Rail, he will help co-ordinate sales enquiries and follow up quotes, as well as helping to increase Alpha Rail’s presence online by attracting new customers using social media, e-news, blogs and articles. As part of his continuing apprenticeship he will work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration.
He said: “I researched Alpha Rail prior to my interview and realised how well established it was and felt reassured by the number of people who have worked here for 20 years or more. There is obviously a commitment to work to an extremely high standard and I am looking forward to developing a positive future with the company”.
Alpha Rail, which was established in 1985, manufactures metal railings, gates, pedestrian guardrail and other bespoke architectural metalwork. Over the Summer, works have been taking place on a new factory in Huthwaite. The plan is for all staff and machinery to relocate to the new premises by the end of 2016.
Sales director Phil Ball added: “Alpha Rail presents opportunities for a promising career with roughly 50% of our team having over 20 years’ service. We are also proud that we have been able to offer previous apprentices secure permanent positions within the company”.
