Time Out: Martin Cox, CMO at SPC Technologies

Martin Cox

It’s time to get ready for the weekend with some quick fire questions. This week’s ‘Time Out’ features Nottingham’s Martin Cox, CMO at SPC Technologies, who is an avid cycler and a sucker for pop music…

What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?                                          My collegues in Austria leave at noon on a Friday, and whilst I’m keen to do that, it never happens. So instead I plan to leave at 4 and go for a longer ride home. This time allows me to rinse the head of the day’s work, whilst also giving me some breathing space to think about bigger issues – whether that’s work or personal. The longer ride sets up the weekend nicely!

What is your hobby?                                                                                                      Cycling. Whether it’s a short blast through the woods, or crossing a continent under my own leg power (Europe and N. America done so far), you simply can’t beat it for fun!

What is your favourite movie?                                                                                      I’ve recently rewatched Forrest Gump and it’s pretty hard to fault. Due to having a trio of Star-Wars obsessed boys I think those movies rate up there as well!

If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?                                                                                                                         I really enjoyed teaching at Nottingham Trent University so would have probably stuck to that.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?                                                    The ability to learn languages! I do a great deal of travelling and always wish I could understand what’s going on around me better.

What is your favourite genre of music?                                                                        I’ve always been a sucker for pop music, something upbeat and cheery (allows me to ride faster and sing in the wilderness to scare off bears!), so I would say my current favourite is probably Taylor Swift *hangs head in shame….

If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?                                 The moment I saw my future wife for the first time was pretty special – I’d definitely tap her on the shoulder and tell her to RUN!
