An innovation showcase event to support local businesses has been voted ‘Event of the Festival’ at the Leicester Business Festival 2017.
The showcase was organised by inCharnwood, a Charnwood Borough Council initiative and Loughborough Advanced Technology and Innovation (LATi).
The event gave businesses the chance to find out how innovation can help them grow and boost the economy.
More than 200 people from across the East Midlands attended the showcase. Five speakers and 55 exhibitors with backgrounds in advanced manufacturing, technology, science and innovation were on hand to talk about their exciting innovations.
Councillor Eric Vardy, Lead Member for Planning, Inward Investment and Tourism, said: “The award of Event of the Festival is confirmation that the showcase, in its first year, was a great event and testament to the fact that Charnwood has a number of innovative businesses.
“The line-up of speakers and exhibitors was brilliant. It created a real buzz on the day and showed that working together we have an excellent opportunity to grow the local economy and create more, better jobs for our future generations.
“We were delighted to be part of the Leicester Business Festival and we look forward to showcasing more innovation in 2018.”
Gillian Hunter, manager of LATi, said: “There are so many exceptional technology, scientific and engineering businesses in Charnwood.
“We saw the Leicester Business Festival as an opportunity to showcase the remarkable innovation taking place on our doorstep and promote the fact that Loughborough and the surrounding area is a hotbed of innovation and home to some of the region’s most innovative enterprises.
“We are thrilled that the Showcase event stood out amongst the 154 Leicester Business Festival events across the city and county to be awarded ‘Event of the Festival’.”
